Forgiveness: The Main Element of True Happiness

In the Declaration of Independence it states “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  Although being joyful and enjoying happiness is God’s gift to man [ECC 3:12-13], many of us take this present for granted.  Happiness is not something that is bestowed upon us, it’s nothing that is guaranteed.  We are on a constant journey to attain true happiness.  However, without having the ability to forgive those who have done us harm or meant us no good, we will never be able to realize our gains.

You see, by not being able to forgive people, we stop ourselves from reaching our God’s glory and attaining inner peace and happiness.  We have given others the power to dictate how we live our own lives.  This is not a power that should be in the hands of those who do wicked things and have wicked thoughts, it is something that we need to take control of ourselves.  With that said, what if you are the one that with wicked thoughts?  Well, I guess it’s time to release yourself from your own prison and forgive yourself.  That’s the start of true happiness.

When you have resentment for others, you are bound to those individuals whether you like it or not.  Release that anger, abandon that negativity and you will be on your way to living life the way it was intended.  We cannot take on the energy of those around us, nor accept responsibility for the actions of others.  We are only responsible for ourselves.  So once you are able to forgive yourself and others, you must also have the ability to forget it all, start with a clean slate.  What good does it serve one if they were to forgive yet still make one or others pay for events of the past?  All things are always easier said than done, but eventually you must let go.  Trust in yourself, for this is where the true love and power of God exists.  Just some things that were on my mind this morning.
